Flashback to the day royal fever hit town

Crowds prepare to meet the Queen.

Crowds prepare to meet the Queen.

Last month was the 15th anniversary of a visit to Lancaster Priory by the Queen.

During the visit, on July 23 1999, photographer Guy Hemmings had the privilege of taking pictures of the day as part of an audio-visual team who were handling the event.

As a result Guy have some until now unseen photographs taken at the time from various different perspectives, inside the cordon, including photos of the Queen herself.

Guy has kindly loaned us the photos to show off for the first time – and many local residents will be able to spot themselves in the crowds of onlookers.

Brownies, Scouts and other local organisations were among those who waited patiently for a glimpse of the Queen and her entourage.
