TWO newcomers to The Dukes outdoor shows joined forces last week to make history for the Lancaster theatre.

Kieran Buckeridge plays Merlin and John Cockerill plays Arthur in The Dukes’ 25th anniversary production of Merlin and the Legend of King Arthur, which opened at Williamson Park last Friday and runs to August 13.

“I’ve never done any promenading theatre before but had heard so many things about the shows in Lancaster that I was really excited about taking part this year,” said John.

However, he is no stranger to performing outdoors as he has worked at Ludlow Castle and during a tour of Peter Pan he performed in London’s Kensington Gardens, with its famous links to the story of the boy who never grew up.

“At the start of my acting career I was often cast as children, animals or women,” he said.
