A NEW nature reserve is to be developed in the heart of Lancaster after the city council handed over the land to a community group.
Lancaster City Council has awarded the Fairfield Association a 30-year lease on fields between Aldcliffe and Cromwell Road and the Fairfield Millennium Orchard near Sunnyside Lane.
Over the next few months the fields will be converted into a local nature reserve (known as FAUNA).
At a ceremony on Monday, the lease was handed over to the association by Coun Jon Barry on behalf of the council.
