The next phase of work on the redevelopment of the former Moor Hospital site can now get under way after councillors approved plans for housing on the Annexe.
Story Homes will build 23 new houses on the site between The Annexe and the hospital’s western boundary – one four-bed detached, 13 three-bed and nine four-bed semi-detached.
Members of the city council’s planning committee unanimously approved the scheme when they met on Monday.
Coun Margaret Pattison said: “I feel proud to be a part of this because it is just breathtaking.”
Coun Keith Sowden said: “This is the best example I have seen of the conversion of an old Victorian building.”
And Coun Eileen Blamire said: “I am really happy with this development. I think it’s really well done and the building deserves it.”
However, Coun Blamire warned that in the future, any new developments in the area would need an improvement in the road infrastructure to cope with the need.
She said: “While I welcome this I am concerned about the future, because we will be packing so many houses into that area without any proper roads.”
