LANCASTER Singers and Lancashire Sinfonietta will delight classical music fans when they perform a double requiem at St Peter’s Cathedral on Saturday, March 17.
The soloists for the evening will be Soprano Katie Lowe, Mezzo Soprano Miranda Westcott, Tenor Tyler Clarke and Baritone Laurence Meikle. They will be supported by the Singers, a 70 strong mixed-voice chamber choir.
Lancashire Sinfonietta’s members, originally from Lancashire, are drawn from orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, the Halle, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music and the European Union Chamber Orchestra.
A spokesman for Lancashire Sinfonietta said: “Mozart’s Requiem is one of his most enduring works.
“It never fails to communicate the very powerful emotions of the composer at a tragic juncture of his life.
“The Michael Haydn Requiem was also blighted by tragedy as the composer lost his daughter earlier that year - although the requiem was composed for the Count Archbishop of Salzburg, his personal loss was almost certainly what inspired this beautiful work.”
Marco Fanti, the Lancaster Singers’ director, who has won several international accolades for his conducting, will be directing both works.
He said: “The Lancashire Sinfonietta is an outstanding chamber orchestra.
“I am thrilled to be conducting this performance in the fitting venue of St Peter’s Cathedral. It will be a very moving evening – don’t miss it!”
The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are priced £16, concessions £14, and students get in free.
Tickets available from Lancaster Tourist Information Office, on the door at the cathedral on Balmoral Road, or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or phoning 01524 68481.
