CCTV of man wanted in connection with jewellery theft in Lancaster.

A man tricked a shop assistant and walked off with £12,000 worth of rings from a jewellers’ in Lancaster.

He went into the Wave Contemporary Jewellery store on Marketgate at about 2:40pm last Friday and asked to look at a watch and three rings.

He then told the shop assistant that he wanted the items and specified to them on how he wanted the items to be wrapped.

Initially he wanted to pay some of the bill with cash and handed over an amount of money before asking for it back and telling the shop assistant that he would pay by bank card instead.

The offender then told staff that he wanted to get his wife and that he would be back in 30 minutes. He left the store taking the three rings with him but did not return.

PC Julia Whitehead from Lancaster police said, “I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to come forward and contact the police.

“Over £12,000 worth of goods have been stolen and the person responsible needs to be caught and brought to justice.”

Anyone with information can call Lancaster Police on 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

Heli - how do you know where he was born, or what his nationality is? If, as I suspect, you are referring to the colour of his skin it may surprise you to know that there are many people with slightly browner skin than I suspect yours is who are, in fact, English.

Sorry but the shop assistant in question must be really stupid, I know we don't have all the facts but you do not let someone walk out with goods until they have paid especially to the tune of twelve grand.

it's common sense not to let a customer take valuable items from the shop if they havn't been paid for ... the man in the photo does have a foreign look, but then, what's foreign these days? An English person is just as capable of pulling off a low down act of thievery

How do you know he's not English - and what is the relevance of that comment?
