A man was taken to hospital after a house fire at Holme, near Carnforth.
Firefighters from Milnthorpe, Arnside and Kirkby Lonsdale were called to a property in Peartree Park at 2.23am this morning.
Three appliances were sent to tackle the blaze, which started in the hallway of the two-storey terraced home.
Crews donned breathing apparatus before using two hose reel jets to fight the flames.
They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for further hotspots of fire.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said an investigation into its cause had started.
The service also said on a Twitter feed that the property did have a working smoke alarm.
A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said one man was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary to be treated for suspected smoke inhalation.
