AN art director who killed a father-of-two from Scorton with a broken bottle at a Jessie J gig was jailed for at least 14 years today, Friday November 9.
Ashley Charles, 26, slashed the throat of married telecoms boss Philip Sheriff, 37, in front of hundreds of revellers at a central London nightclub.
The blow, which was caught on CCTV, severed the victim’s carotid artery and jugular vein and caused massive blood loss.
Partygoers desperately tried to save Mr Sheriff by using clingfilm to stem the bleeding but he died in hospital four days later.
Charles denied murder and claimed he had only lashed out with the bottle because he feared Mr Sheriff was going to attack him.
But he was convicted following a two-week trial at the Old Bailey, and sentenced to life in prison to serve a minumum of 14 years.
