A 74-year-old man has died after falling from his motorbike in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Police are appealing for information following the accident, which happened at around 12.30pm on Thursday September 18.

The man, named as John Makin from Abbey Hey in Manchester, was travelling north along the A683 Burrow Road towards Cumbria.

It is thought that he had completed an overtake manoeuvre before falling from his motorbike and colliding with a hedge.

He was airlifted to Royal Lancaster Infirmary where he later passed away.

Inspector Rob Gomery of Lancashire Police said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with John’s family at this time.

“An investigation to establish the circumstances of the accident is now underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this collision to contact us on 101 quoting log number LC-20140918-0548.”

His family said in a statement: “John Makin, a loving father to his four children and beautiful grandchildren, was taken from us suddenly and too soon. Words cannot describe our loss. He will always be in our hearts forever.”
