A MAN was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and then using an improvised flame thrower on police.
Police attended a house in Eastham Street, Lancaster, at 10.20pm on Wednesday following reports of a 25-year-old man assaulting his girlfriend and then threatening people with a plank of wood.
The man then barricaded himself into a house and, when challenged by police, attempted to burn the officers with an improvised flame thrower.
The police armed response unit was called to the scene to search the property and the premises were declared clear.
The man was later detained in the city centre and arrested on suspicion of affray and section 39 assault.
