A project which supports victims of rape and sexual abuse across the region has received a Lottery grant of almost £300,000.

The grant to The Birchall Trust is one of seven awarded across the north west this week by the Big Lottery Fund – the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding.

The Birchall Trust, which covers south Cumbria and north Lancashire, received £298,261 to relieve the mental and physical stress of people and their families who are victims of rape and childhood sexual abuse.

The trust will use the funding to provide therapeutic services, one-to-one counselling, art and play therapy sessions, and increase public awareness of the issue.
