The huge effort by the people of Bolton-le-Sands to raise more than £80,000 to a create a new playground for the children of the village was celebrated on Saturday with a formal opening and family fun day.

Cutting the ribbon alongside playground committee chairman Coun Keith Budden was seven-year-old Harry Mason, who single-handedly raised more than £500 for the project with a sponsored walk.

Also taking pride of place in the celebration was Eleanor Patterson, six, who designed the colourful flag which flies over the new layground.
