1. What was your first job?

I worked in an independent shop selling outdoor equipment on Saturday mornings in Ingleton called Inglesport when I was 16. My job was to get cave hire equipment ready, and I also worked at their climbing wall. We got a discount too, which was handy.

2. How do you relax after a hard day’s work?

I go to the climbing wall. It’s great to do something physical after a day in front of the screen developing websites. I like reading and music as well.

3. Proudest moment in business?

Being made a partner at Hotfoot Design.

4. Most embarrassing moment at work?

At a client pitch a few years ago I looked down to check my notes, thought through what I was going to say next, and then looked up and repeated exactly what my colleague had just said, which was quite embarrassing. We did win the work though, so it wasn’t too bad.

5. What is your biggest vice?

Beef flavoured Space Invaders, which is a bit odd as I’m vegetarian, though they don’t contain any real meat!

6. Who is the biggest influence on your life?

My mum and dad, they put a lot into bringing up my brother, sister and I. I think it’s hard to progress in life if you don’t have that kind of support, so I’m very grateful.

7. Word of business advice?

The best piece of advice I’ve had as technical director is always to keep up with new developments, even if you just gain a broad overview of new technologies as they come into play, so you’re ready to use them when requirements arise.
