Band birthday

A rock ‘n’ roll group has marked 50 years of playing venues across the district. Tommy J and the Midnights celebrated a golden milestone with a charity gig at Morecambe Golf Club. The show raised £1,800 for St John’s Hospice. Proceeds from sales of the band’s CD Midnight Gold will also go to the hospice. The CD is priced £5. The band will play the Pier Hotel in Morecambe this Saturday night.

Open gardens weekend

People across Lancaster and Morecambe are being urged to visit a local private garden this weekend, as part of the National Garden Scheme’s 48-hour garden festival June 7-8, in aid of Marie Curie and other charities. There are more than 500 private gardens that will be opening their gates to the public across the country this weekend. Set to be the largest garden visiting event in history, the Festival Weekend aims to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Marie Curie and other charity partners.

Venus and Cupid fundraising campaign

Venus & Cupid Arts Trust are announcing their new fundraising campaign at

Bare Fest on June 7. This year, with the help of an anonymous donor, every

donation and every new or renewed Friends subscription will be matched pound for poundfor the period leading up to Bare Fest and for the following week to

June 14. The Trust’s volunteers will be on hand at the Venus stall in front of the

Crescent Gallery in Princes Crescent to sign up new Friends, greet old Friends

and receive donations.
