A newly refurbished and extended children’s outdoor play area and a teenager’s room – the Den - at the children’s ward at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) will be officially opened next week.

The official opening takes place on Friday, June, 6 and the play area is for the use of inpatients and outpatients attending the children’s ward, and their relatives.

The Den is for older children and will be a chill-out zone with gaming stations, DVD player and a 50ins widescreen TV.

The entire refurbishment – which has cost £14,000 – has been funded by charitable funds, including donations from the League of Friends of Royal Lancaster Infirmary and other fundraising activity.

As well as making a substantial donation to the outdoor play area, the Friends gave extra funding to purchase toys.

The children’s ward also received donations from the Cumberland Building Society, Leisure Lakes Bikes and RTC Safety Systems, who designed and laid the play area.
