Police are appealing for the owner of a Shetland pony to come forward after it was found wandering in the road.
The pony, which was spotted near Truckhaven in Carnforth on Saturday morning, then headed off towards Pine Lake and ended up swimming in the River Keer and had to be rescued.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We received a call to report a pony in the road headed towards Pine Lake roundabout.
“Police got the horse into Pine Lake off the road and looked for potential owners.
“No-one was found and a vet was called. The pony then decided to take a swim in the river near Truckhaven.
“The fire service were called out and tried to get the pony out. It had gone under the bridge swimming but was starting to tire.
“By 10.55am, the pony was out of the river. We still don’t have an owner for it.
“We would appeal for the owner or anyone who might know who the owner is to contact us.”
The pony is currently being looked after until its owner is found.
