ITV talent show The X Factor is back...and so is Lancaster contestant Paul Akister.

And this year Paul has already made a big impact on judges Simon Cowell, Melanie Brown and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini as he makes his second attempt to win the singing show .

The talented soul man, who reached the Judges Houses stage last year, impressed Cheryl and Mel B so much during a performance of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get it On’, they performed a sexy ‘lap dance’ for Cowell!

Paul, who has lost weight and changed his image since coming so close to the live shows in 2013, will soon be seen on ITV during the audition process.

It is believed he got through the closed-room auditions and performed at the next stage of the competition in front of a live crowd at Wembley Arena last month, where he was asked to sing a second song.

As the crowd went wild for Akister’s amazing vocals, Cheryl and ex-Spice Girl Mel got up and began to grind up against Cowell to the music, much to the mogul’s delight!

Afterwards Simon saidto him: “I’m glad I got you to sing another song. I think we both had a good time during that.”

Paul, 25, is hotly tipped to reach the Judges Houses section of the programme for the second year running. An ITV spokesman said he did not know yet when footage of Paul’s auditions would be screened as schedules are only confirmed a few days before the programme airs.

Last year, judge Louis Walsh controversially axed Akister before the live shows, saying he didn’t believe he had “the whole package” to be a star, instead choosing Sam Callahan and eventual runners up Luke Friend and Nicholas McDonald.

This came after Take That star Gary Barlow said he thought Paul had the best voice in the competition. Since the disappointment of last year, Paul has been in high demand for gigs around our district, performing in front of big crowds at the Lancaster Christmas Lights switch on and Morecambe Carnival.

The X Factor series continues this Saturday and Sunday night on ITV1.
