Lancaster dog poo bins stand stinking for two weeks

Dog poo bins are being left stinking and overflowing on cycle tracks and at beauty spots, claims a local vet.

Vet Katie Kyle from Bay Vets said: “It’s a public health risk as well as an eyesore!

“There is also the risk of catching toxocara worm from the dog poo which can cause blindness.

“The dog poo bins on the Caton cycle track and at the Crook o’Lune haven’t been emptied for over two weeks and are stinking!

“A lot of my friends walk their dogs along there as well as me, it is a really popular route.

“I just thought if I can clear the pile underneath the bin it might stop people starting another pile.

“I thought it would be a good community thing to do to remove the dog poo.

“I had three clinical waste bags which I filled with poo and I took the bags to the vets in Caton to be disposed of. I picked up 27kg.

“Apparently there is some kind of dispute over who is responsible for emptying the poo bins on the Caton cycle track.

“A lot of people have been emailing the council but not getting anywhere.

“Someone said if they are issuing fines for dog fouling they should gives us an option of where to dispose of the dog poo.”

“With the summer holidays coming up it will only get worse.”

A joint omment issued on behalf of both Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council said:

“Thank you to the person that cleared the bin. There’s clearly been a problem with the arrangements for clearing this waste. While we’re not sure exactly what has happened at this time, both the county council and city council are working closely together to make sure it gets sorted out.”
