We’re now into the third week of this year’s Lancaster Guardian/BiG Storage Toy Appeal and the toys have started flooding in to the collection point at BiG Storage in Morecambe.
Following on from the launch with Jason Manford a fortnight ago, we now would like to spotlight one of the local charities who your donations will assist.
Unique Kidz and Co provides specialist services for disabled children and their families. The charity was founded in 2009 by two mums of disabled children unable to find suitable childcare or social activities for their children, and now supports more than 120 children with a range of disabilities.
Unique Kidz offer holiday clubs, after school clubs, weekend trips, projects for under 5s, support for siblings and consultation workshops.
These services allow parents and carers of disabled children to return to work or education, spend time with other family members, or have some much needed respite.
Paul Whittaker, BiG Storage’s Toy Appeal coordinator, said: “Unique Kidz and Co are a hugely worthy reciprocate of the gifts collected through the toy appeal and is exactly the kind of charity the appeal was set up to help. The work done is a credit not only to how the charity has developed but to the local community who has also helped raise funds and collect gifts since its formation in 2009.”
Alongside Unique Kidz & Co, the appeal’s other chosen charities which will benefit include The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust who help children throughout the North West and CAPSS (Children and Parent Support Service) who are based in the Lancaster area, and JUMP.
Paul added: “The Lancaster Guardian and BiG Storage appeal has had a fabulous response from the local community so far but we need MORE gifts to ensure all the needy or vulnerable children in the area have a toy this Christmas.
BiG Storage is located in Northgate, White Lund, and can be contacted on 65272. The branch is open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays. Gifts need to be new and boxed.
