Inspirational Lancaster boy's zip wire challenge

Cameron Redpath, who is wheelchair bound, will complete the Will Lewis zip wire over a slate mine in Bangor, Wales on June 12.

Cameron, from Lancaster, was born prematurely in 2001 and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in 2002. The condition affects his limbs and muscles but mum Lynne has said her son is ‘very determined.’

She said: “He has defied odds. He is very independent. He is an inspiration, he puts able-bodied people to shame.”

The zip wire attempt will raise funds for Dreamflight, a charity who are celebrating their 30th year and aim to send seriously ill children on a holiday of a lifetime.

It will also commemorate the life of Will Lewis who lost his battle with leukaemia in June 2014. Will was due to take part in the challenge with Cameron.

Cameron, who attends Central Lancaster High School, met Will through a Florida holiday in 2013 which Dreamflight organised. The pair made many happy memories including swimming with dolphins.

He said: “He was a great friend, he would never want to talk about his illness, he was very brave.” Cameron’s dad, Gavin and his friend Maisie will join him on the zip wire and they’ve raised £2281 so far.
