The first new residents will soon be moving in to the restored landmark of Lancaster Moor.
The first new residents are now moving in to the restored landmark of the Lancaster Moor Hospital.
Over the last 18 months the former hospital has undergone a transformation from derelict building to luxury residential development, with the first release of 28 new homes all sold off plan.
Completions are now taking place and the first buyers will move in by the end of the month.
Amongst the first taking up residence in The Residence will be local couple Ben Carradice and Gemma Ritchie.
Gemma, 28, who works at the nearby Lancaster Brewery, said: “This will be our first home of our own and we cannot wait to move in. I work close by and it has been incredibly exciting watching the work progress and see the building come back to life.
“My mum used to work there when it was a hospital and she says the change is remarkable – walking into the entrance lobby is like walking in to a five star hotel.”
The conversion of the building is being carried out by Manchester-based specialists The PJ Livesey Group a family owned firm with a strong reputation for working on heritage and listed building sites.
Director Georgina Livesey said: “Seeing the first people move in to a building is always a significant moment for the entire team.
“It is what we all work towards and we hope Gemma and Ben will be incredibly happy at The Residence.
“We have been really pleased with the eaction to the first phase and the many lovely
comments, not just from buyers and local residents, but from the city council which wanted this important landmark brought back into use.
“There has also been significant positive feedback from the Homes and Communities Agency which is working on partnership on this project.
“Its national board visited the site last week and say the new homes being delivered here and the quality which make it a bench mark for the rest of the country.
“We always endeavour to create developments that remain a legacy for the area and believe The Residence at Lancaster Moor sets new standards.”
The second phase of one and two bedroom apartments and larger three bedroom penthouses are now being released with prices starting at £119,950.
