Guardian cartoonist Jack's royal appointment

Jack will be attending the event at Buckingham Palace in May along with other specially invited guests.

He was picked after being nominated for his work in the community.

Jack, who runs an illustration and image design business, Jack Knight Graphics, said: “It’s really exciting, I’m a big fan of the Queen, which seems to be a rarity these days. I was nominated for an invitation because of my work in the community.

“I support independent shops via the loyalty card scheme I set up,’Independent Lancaster’.

“I also give illustration workshops to schools and Brownie groups and I work with the museum service in Lancaster, teaching school groups about history through role play, dressing up and hands-on learning activities.”

Jack is no stranger to meeting the Queen, having already had the privilege when she visited Lancaster Castle last May.

“It was a real honour being introduced to her and I’m thrilled I’ll have another opportunity,” Jack said.

Jack has been the Guardian cartoonist for more than two years. The 31-year-old dad-of-one is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist and a member of the Cartoonists Club of Great Britain.

Over the course of each year, the Queen welcomes more than 30,000 guests to spend a relaxed summer afternoon in the gardens of Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The gardenparties are an important way for the Queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community.
