More parents of toddlers will be able to enjoy free childcare next month.

Eligibility rules for free childcare for two-year-olds have changed. From May 1, any family receiving Working Tax Credit and on an income up to £16,190 will qualify.

To find out more go to www.lancashire.gov.uk/childcare , ring FIS on 0800 195 0137 or email them on lancsfis@lancashire.gov.uk. They will be able to help you with your query about this or any other childcare issues.

And the county council’s Welfare Rights team (0300 123 6739) can advise parents who aren’t sure about how this would affect the status of their claim with HMRC.

Previous eligibility criteria for the free places – which still apply – are where the parent or guardian of the child receives income support , child tax credit, if annual income is less than £16,190 and they don’t receive working tax credit, plus children in care. Eligible children can get up to 570 free hours of childcare per year, up to a maximum of 15 hours a week, over at least 38 weeks per year.
