Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was guest speaker at a dinner organised by the Lancaster Labour Party.

The evening at the Kings Arms Hotel raised funds for the election campaign of Cat Smith, who will stand against Eric Ollerenshaw for the Lancaster and Fleetwood parliamentary seat at next year’s General Election.

Around 60 local party members attended the event on Friday.

Other people attending the evening were Lancashire’s police and crime commissioner Clive Grunshaw and Eileen Blamire, leader of Lancaster City Council.

Ms Cooper, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions from 2009-10, said the seat was vital to Labour if the party was to win the election.

She added: “It was a pleasure to speak to some of our dedicated local campaigners.”
