Around 2,000 people enjoyed some good old fashioned fun in the sun on Saturday when LancasterUniversity held a Staff and Families’ Day on campus.

The trip down memory lane, a 1960s-style summer fete, was created as part of the university’s 50th anniversary celebrations to thank staff, and their families, for the role they play in the university’s success.

Attractions included a big wheel, carousel, coconut shy, Punch and Judy, an urban beach, candyfloss, donkey rides, traditional sports day races and a band stand complete with an array of staff bands.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Mark E. Smith welcomed everyone to the event before personally thanking the staff for the vital contribution they make to the University. He also presented prizes to the winners of the fancy dress competition.
