Wife of murdered pensioner dies
THE wife of Nether Kellet pensioner Richard Hodgson has died.
Muriel Hodgson died suddenly on Sunday morning from suspected heart failure. She was 80.
Mrs Hodgson's death comes just 24 days after her 78-year-old husband was stabbed to death in his back garden at Channel View, Nether Kellet.
His body was found buried in a shallow grave on July 4, the day after he was reported missing by his wife after he had gone outside to do some gardening and disappeared.
Mr and Mrs Hodgson had been married for 54 years and had lived in Nether Kellet their whole married life.
They were a quiet couple who were not involved in many village activities.
The couple's family released a statement this week. It said: "We are devastated at the loss of Muriel so soon after the tragic death of Richard."
A post mortem will be held to determine the exact cause of Mrs Hodgson's death.
Police have charged Daniel Lee Rogerson, 19 – who had been temporarily staying with his grandparents next door to the Hodgsons – with murdering Mr Hodgson on July 3.
He is due to appear in court again on October 1.
Detectives working on the killing of Mr Hodgson have appealed for the owner of a small red hatchback parked in New Street, Carnforth, on the night of July 3, to come forward.
The car is believed to have had its tyres damaged.
The owner is asked to call police on 596575.
