Watersports haven wins council nod
A PRESTIGIOUS international watersports centre could open in Lancaster under plans backed by city councillors this week.
Plans are afoot to transform the Lancaster John O’Gaunt Rowing Club base at Skerton weir into a “regionally significant” centre for rowing, kayaking and canoeing.
The centre could host top water sports competitions and coaching on a par with the Tees Barrage facility in Stockton-on-Tees, which is being used as a practice site for the 2012 Olympic Games.
There are only a handful of similar centres in the UK.
