Study to shape castle future

Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle

HERITAGE consultants have been appointed to help decide the future of Lancaster Castle.

Malcolm Reading Consultants (MRC) have been appointed by building owner the Duchy of Lancaster to conduct a six-month study and draw up options for its future.

The consultants say they will consult all sections of the community, including Lancaster City Council, Lancaster University, business groups and residents.

Malcolm Reading, chairman of MRC, said: “This is a great opportunity to develop a plan which reconnects Lancaster Castle with the city and local community.

“We hope to speak to a large number of people, using workshops and questionnaires, to get their views on the castle’s future and their priorities for Lancaster.”

Why not just knock it down and build Student Accommodation there.

Wasted opportunity - They could have kept the prison "open" for paying guests! Would have been a massive hit for ex-public schoolboys or Stag nights to spend a night at "Her Majesty's Displeasure!" Good money earner too. Equally - they have the facilities there - Why couldn't they have just opened it as a Themed hotel the day after it was closed! Folk would have flocked to it - and it would have been one in the eye for Travellodge - as there's not much in it!

If English heritage become involved it will be years before anything is decided.
