Road crashes

A 44-YEAR-old man died on New Year's Eve after he was thrown from his vehicle when it hit the central barrier on the M6 near Forton.

The incident occured between junction 33 and 34 on the northbound carriageway at 1.20pm, with the Renault Traffic van completely overturning after drifting into the central reservation.

The man, believed to be from the Preston area, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital, where he died shortly after.

There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.

All three lanes of the northbound carriageway were closed for three hours causing serious delays, with traffic being diverted from the motorway along the A6. Lane three remained closed overnight while police carried out investigations.

*In Carnforth, a driver was trapped in their vehicle after it overturned in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Two fire crews used a thermal imaging camera to find and successfully free the driver trapped in a van in Crag Road at around 3.20am.
