Police chief takes up new northern role

A NEW chief started work at Lancaster Police Station this week.

Chief Supt Richard Bayly has taken over from Tracey Launder following her retirement.

He will be responsible for policing in northern division, which includes Lancaster, Morecambe, Wyre and Fleetwood.

Chief Supt Bayly, 45, was born and bred in Lancashire and joined the police force in 1984, because he wanted to serve the local community.

He worked as a patrol officer in Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Blackburn, before being promoted to a position in Burnley and then returning to Blackburn as a PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence) inspector.

He worked as a chief inspector in Blackpool, then as a superintendent at H division including armed response, air support and road policing.

Over the last three years, he has been a superintendent in central and western divisions.

Chief Supt Bayly said: "We will continue to work towards reducing and detecting crime by building on the excellent partnership work that has been carried out by my predecessor, as well as the ongoing work that takes place on a day-to-day basis involving officers and staff in northern division.

"This continuing partnership approach is really helping to prevent crime and keep our communities safe."
