Pensioner reunited with jewellery
A PENSIONER who had valuable jewellery stolen from her home is set to be reunited with her property after she was able to provide officers with photos of the items.
The 92-year-old from Lancaster had followed police crime prevention advice and taken detailed photographs of all her jewellery – both valuable and sentimental pieces.
When the elderly lady discovered that items worth over £4,000 – including rings, lockets and pendants - had been taken from her home in January, officers used the images to try to locate the stolen property.
It was later traced to a second hand shop and will now be returned to the victim.
A 43-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the offence.
Detective Sergeant Steve Craig, Lancaster CID, said: “Officers advise residents to take such photos so that should an item ever be stolen police can use the images as a reference when looking through recovered stolen property.
“This makes it easier to identify and then it can be returned more quickly to its rightful owner.
“It is also a good idea to make a note of make, models and serial numbers for valuable electrical items and to mark your postcode on to your property – again this all helps to identify it as yours if it is unfortunately stolen.”
Officers are passing on crime prevention advice to residents as part of Operation Julius, a county-wide crack down on burglary.
