Trains were cancelled between Lancaster and Preston yesterday, Wednesday, after a man’s body was found on the railway line.

The discovery, just after 10.30am, meant all services were halted on the line for several hours and rail replacement services were put on in their place.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Lancaster station on Wednesday, February 20, following the discovery of a man’s body on the line.

“Officers from BTP and Lancashire Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to police at 10.31am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Medics from North West Ambulance Service also attended but the man, thought to be in his twenties and from Brighton, was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries consistent with being hit by a train.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
