Major fire at Morecambe flat
Firefighters at the corner of Yorkshire Street and Regent Road following the fire.
Police and fire officers are appealing for witnesses following a large blaze in the West End of Morecambe.
The fire service was called to a flat above a manicurist business on Yorkshire Street at around 4.20am.
Firefighters had originally feared someone was trapped in the building but all people were accounted for by 7.45am.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue described the fire as “severe” with six engines and one cherry picker device, totalling up to 35 firefighters, on the scene at one point.
The fire was under control by 6am and part of Regent Road is currently closed to traffic while fire crews continue their work at the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious and a joint police and fire investigation will begin once the fire has been fully extinguished.
