Lancaster city centre was gridlocked on Tuesday night with as many as three accidents bringing traffic to a standstill.

The pedestrian, thought to be his late 60s, suffered head injuries after the accident between Durham Avenue and Wakefield Drive.

A police motorcyclist, believed to be responding to the incident, was thrown off his bike after a collision with a car at 5.07pm at the traffic lights outside Lancaster Town Hall.

Dalton Square has been closed off to traffic with eyewitness reports in the area saying roads around the one-way system are gridlocked.

A cyclist was hit by a car in third incident, also on Barton Road, near the junction with Wakefield Drive at 4.58pm.

The cyclist’s injuries are not believed to be serious.
