The new year is the time many people decide to make resolutions in a bid to reach their personal goals, lose a bad habit or change their life for the better.

Lancaster mayor Sheila Denwood said she hoped to raise as much money as possible for her chosen charities, Help for Heroes, the British Legion and arthritis research.

She is holding a few charity events in the coming months in her bid to help the charities.

“I would also like to see the district thrive,” she said. “We have lost some shops but people are trying to do their bit for the city.”

Lancaster MP Eric Ollerenshaw said he is looking forward to seeing the consultation on the future of the Castle finalised, as well as improvements on the West Coast Main Line and work starting on the M6 link road.

On a personal note, he is hoping to find the time to go back to the gym.

Morecambe and Lunesdale MP David Morris said: “I’m going to exercise more and go to the gym but it’s finding the time.

“I’m going to keep my nose to the grindstone and find more money for Morecambe.”

The Guardian’s Who’s the Daddy columnist Michael Gardner said: “Stay in work; be a good dad to my kids; do the Great North Run a bit faster this year; get what we need, not necessarily what we want.”

Not everyone is keen on making resolutions however.

Chair of Morecambe’s Friends of the Winter Gardens and Independent Morecambe Town Councillor Evelyn Archer said: “My resolution should be to make a resolution.

“I try not to make them so I don’t break them.”
