Duke of Lancaster soldier honoured
THE soldier son of the Colonel of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment will be remembered at Lancaster's Priory Church following his death on Sunday.
Capt Andrew Griffiths, 25, died a week after he was wounded in an explosion while leading his platoon on an operation in Helmand, Afghanistan.
He was the son of Brigadier Mike Griffiths, Colonel of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, and known to many soldiers in the Lancaster area.
Brigadier Griffiths is also the President of The Lancaster Military Heritage Group.
As a mark of respect Reverend Chris Newlands, the vicar of Lancaster, in conjunction with the military heritage group, has opened a Book of Condolence in the church's Regimental Chapel.
There is also a photograph of Andrew and a burning candle placed in the chapel, and the church's flag is being flown at half mast.
