Campaigner wants wind turbine on own land
AN anti wind turbine campaigner is seeking permission to build a 17 metre high wind turbine on his land.
Brian Acott, of Locka Lane, Arkholme, has applied for planning permission from Lancaster City Council to build the 5KW domestic wind turbine to provide electricity to his home.
He said that people would probably look at the application and think "it's a bit strange" but insists the turbine would not have an adverse affect on the countryside around his home.
Mr Acott is chairman of the Stop Turbines in Lunesdale Environment (STILE) group, who campaign against large scale wind farms in the Lune Valley.
The group actively opposed plans by Community Wind Power to build a wind farm at Whit Moor, in the Lune Valley, close to the existing belt on Caton Moor.
He said: "STILE has never been opposed to wind turbine development in general, but about developments that have a detrimental effect on the rural environment.
"Most people can see the difference between them.
"I have a very strong interest in reducing my impact on the environment and we've spoken to all of our neighbours who are all in favour of the project. I don't think it's going to be seen by anybody but me.
"Clearly people will look at this and think 'it's a bit strange', but I consider 15 metres to be a reasonable height, compared to the 125 metres proposed by Community Wind Power."
Mr Acott added that the turbine would cost around 30,000 to install and is a long term investment to generate electricity at his home, with enough left over to sell back to the National rid.
He also said he would be happy to see this type of small scale turbine at every farm or property in the area.
