The scene at Devil's Bridge following the tragedy.

A verdict of accidental death has been recorded following the inquest into the death of a man who jumped into the River Lune from Devil’s Bridge.

The body of 22-year-old Darrell Teal of Booth Drive, Manchester, was found a short distance from the bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale after several hours of searching by emergency services.

The alarm was raised just after 5pm over concerns for a man who had entered the river at the tourist hot spot that proves popular with thrillseekers jumping into the water.

Cumbria Police attended with the Fire Service and volunteers from the local Mountain Rescue Team.

Specialists from the Underwater Police Diving Unit also attended the scene.

Mr Teal’s body was recovered just before midnight on Saturday, July 21.

Cumbria coroner Ian Smith recorded the verdict at Friday’s inquest.
