The resort’s iconic theatre will play host to a special charity comedy night headlined by a TV funnyman.
Lancaster’s Jon Richardson is coming home to star in a show at Morecambe’s Winter Gardens in aid of St John’s Hospice.
The stand-up star and team captain on Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats will be at the grand old theatre on Saturday, July 6 – the first time it has hosted comedy since restoration began.
Catherine Butterworth, head of fundraising at the hospice, said: “This is the first comedy show the hospice has ever organised, and we are so excited to be putting on a show at this wonderful venue.
“We are so grateful to Jon and his guests for giving up their time to come and entertain our supporters and we are looking forward to creating a really memorable evening.”
The Winter Gardens is steeped in comedy history having hosted 12-year-old Eric Morecambe’s first performance back in 1938.
Richardson’s appearance also represents the first charity comedy show at the Grade II* listed theatre since George Formby raised £600 for war charities back in 1940.
He will bring along special guests including fellow comic Matt Forde.
Evelyn Archer from the Friends of the Winter Gardens said: “It’s such a worthwhile cause.
“I have my own personal experience from what they did for my husband.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Jon at the Winter Gardens.”
There will also be a raffle on the night with a top prize of an iPad Mini donated by Black Box Computers.
