HOSPITAL bosses who run the Royal Lancaster Infirmary have ordered an investigation amid fears that thousands of patients - many seriously ill and including suspected cancer patients - may have had treatment delayed.
A helpline has been set up to take calls from worried patients after reports of problems with the follow-up appointments system at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust runs the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Morecambe’s Queen Victoria Hospital, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow.
Patients with immediate concerns about their follow-up appointment can call a 24-hour, seven days a week, dedicated phone line on 0845 608 0278.
