NHS Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is working closely with ‘n-compass Carers Point!’ to help identify people who are carers and may not be accessing the support that is available to them.
Carers providing a high level of assistance are twice as likely to become permanently sick or disabled themselves.
Up to 40% of carers report psychological distress and 20% suffer from back injuries while 10% have high blood pressure as a result of caring for their relative.
Carnforth GP, Dr David Wrigley, Patient, Public Engagement and Communications lead at the CCG said: “The work that we are doing with Carers Point! is a vital step in identifying carers and helping them access the assistance they need.”
Amanda Brooks, Team Manager for Carers Point!, said: “We are delighted to be working with GPs in the Lancashire North area.
