A teenager has told how she “went though hell” after a catalogue of medical errors resulted in her having part of her left leg amputated.

Lauren Mackereth, 19, had her leg removed below the knee five years after breaking her ankle playing netball at school.

Lauren, who lives in Whittington, is now trying to put her life back together following an horrendous period during which she said no one seemed to
believe the pain she was in.

Her misery began at the age of 14 when her ankle break was initially diagnosed as a sprain. A series of blunders eventually forced surgeons to remove part of the leg last year.

Lauren said: “I watched myself go through hell.”

“I was literally pulling my hair out with the pain and no one believed me.”
