An independent report into maternity and neonatal services at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust is due to be published next week.

Dr Bill Kirkup’s report of the investigation into mother and baby deaths at Furness General Hospital will be published on Tuesday March 3.

The Morecambe Bay Investigation was commissioned by the Department of Health but works independently of the department, and has also sought to interview staff whistleblowers about their experience working for the trust. Dr Kirkup has interviewed many organisations and their representatives over the past year, including UHMBT managers and staff, the Care Quality Commission, Monitor, Cumbria Primary Care Trust, the Department of Health, NHS England, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the MP for Barrow-in-Furness John Woodcock, and David Nicholson, chief executive of the NHS and NHS England
