St John’s Hospice is to provide care closer to home thanks to a successful bid to extend its care hours.
The bid by the Hospice at Home Team at the hospice will enable the team to care for more patients and families in their own homes when they need it most.
The Hospice at Home team provides a vital service in allowing patients with life limiting conditions to spend the end of their life in the place of their choice.
The team’s working hours were 8.30am to 4.30pm and these hours have now been extended to 7am to 10pm.
St John’s has also been successful in its bid to launch a 24-hour collaborative palliative care service from May 1, commissioned by NHS Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group.
Anna Conlan, Hospice at Home manager, said: “At St John’s Hospice we are committed to providing the very best care to patients and families at the end of people’s lives.
“The extension of our hours means that we can continue to improve the services we provide locally .”
