A residential care home has become the first in the area to gain a prestigious industry accreditation for providing excellent end of life care.

The Mayfair Residential Home, based in Marine Road East in Morecambe, has been awarded the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) by the National GSF Centre.

The accreditation is only given to care homes that are able to provide the highest standards of palliative and end-of-life care and involves an intensive 18-month training programme for all staff, delivered by trainers from St. Johns Hospice, Lancaster.

Licia Pickvance, managing director of Mayfair Residential Home, said: “This accreditation is fantastic news for our staff, but above all for our residents and their families, because it means we now have the expertise and knowledge to ensure that our residents can spend the rest of their lives at the Mayfair, rather than having to be transferred to a hospital to receive end-of-life care.”

The Mayfair which was opened in 1984 is a family run care home which is registered for 45 residents.

Licia runs the home with her brother Tony Prada, supported by care manager Sue Exton and 40 staff.

A cheese and wine evening was held at the home to celebrate the achievement and thank staff for their hard work.

Residents and relatives also enjoyed the celebrations.
