TECHNOLOGICAL developments and investment in new equipment are helping to boost breast screening services for local women.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), which runs the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, has this month extended the age group eligible for breast screening, with 47 to 73-year-olds now elgible.

Previously, only 50 to 70-year-olds were entitled to screening.

This will see an increase of between 30 and 40 per cent in the number of women invited for screening each year and means all women will get two extra screening invitations in their lifetime.
