The Royal Lancaster Infirmary’s emergency department referred 25 tissue donors last year.

Donated skin, bone and heart valves can save lives and improve people’s quality of life.

Kirrin Ingham, the hospital’s clinical leader, had a life-saving cornea transplant as a child. Morecambe Bay NHS Trust collectively referred 50 tissue donors between last April and November - the highest number in the country.

Sue Smith, executive chief nurse, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. I would like to thank Kirrin and her colleagues for their commitment to improving the lives of people requiring tissue donation.”
