As 2013 draws to a close, the work of governors has been recognised by the Chair of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

John Cowdall paid tribute to the hard work of all governors in supporting the Trust through a year of re-building.

“All our governors give their own time freely and support the Trust is a variety of ways – either by attending committee or Council of Governor meetings, and act as independent critical friends to the Trust, “he said.

“While I am sure she wouldn’t want to be singled out, I do want to pay tribute to one

governor in particular whose work has been at the forefront of promoting the Trust.

“Shahnaz Asghar has worked tirelessly to help the Trust in a variety of ways over

the past 12 months.

“As well as her governor duties she has promoted volunteering and single-handedly raised money for charitable appeals.

“I am very grateful for all the support I have received over the past year and am

happy to promote the hospitals and their services,” said Shahnaz.

“The work the staff do each and every day should be applauded.”

The Council of Governors is made up of Public Governors, Staff Governors and

Partner Governors.

Any member can stand to become a public governor, and elections are held each year.

To become a member please contact the Membership Office or visit the website.

John added: “You too can help in the same way that Shahnaz has, your first step

would be to become a member of the Trust, and then stand for election.”
