Hospital boss: I won’t go
THE boss of the NHS trust which runs the Royal Lancaster Infirmary has said he will not resign amid new claims about the quality of the trust’s services.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has launched an investigation into emergency care at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBFT), which also runs Morecambe’s Queen Victoria Hospital.
The investigation follows CQC reports last July and December which highlighted concerns over maternity and emergency care.
But trust chief executive Tony Halsall said while high level resignations might be “interesting”, they “don’t achieve anything”.

Whilst he has been "working", he hasn't achieved much for us to be interested in. Now that CQC will appoint a "Turnaround Director" & "Chief Operating Officer", how on earth will he fill his time? I have heard that he is paid £375k pa just for window-dressing, cover-ups and to issue reassurances. He still talks about "restoring public confidence". Restore the service Tony and we'll look after where we place our confidence. The next train to Stafford is just leaving. You can catch it if you run, Tony.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 07:45 PMi couldnt agree more with all the comments posted above, tony halsall has to go! he has lead the trust to near disaster, and yet he wont go? ... maybe it is time for him to be removed. all medical professionals are held responsible & accountable for their actions, he should explaing himself to his staff & the service users.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 01:45 PM#4: Reward for failure, as with the banks, is the aim of the game. Halsall has been in the job almost 5 years, promised that 'the buck stops with me' and has crashed and burned the hospitals so that they now have more investigations and inquiries than Mid Staffs. Hospitals. He's still there, holding out for a monster payoff- the going rate for hospital bungs, after the Mid-Staffs payoff, is about £1 million, which will have to come from the patients.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 07:52 AMThe Nursing staff know how to run the hospitals! Bring in a few matrons and sack all of the Managers and hangers on that have been put in place over the past years as they add nothing to the party but additional on costs!

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 05:07 PMt hese people have absolutely no idea about health care in, management speak, managers can manage any thing they don't need to know about what they manage. I have worked in Health care for thirty years plus I have seen managers come and go and each time they believe a new broom can sweep clean and each time after spending thousands of pounds on unecessary changes they clear off to pastures new spreading their management (skills) to another poor health authority. I often wonder how on earth the NHS managed without these wonderful individuals before, considering the we managed the birth of the health service in 1948 and adequately, without these wonderful individuals. I have been working on a terrible belief that success was rewarded and failure treated accordingly, I was wrong . give the man a pay rise

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 12:37 PMOn 6th June, on the trust website, 'Tony's Blog' stated: "in terms of how the Trust performs, the buck stops here, with me. This applies to absolutely everything, not just the finances". This part of the blog has now been removed. The buck apparently now only stops momentarily, and then floats off to Never Never Land, where duff Trust Boards aren't accountable for anything and declare themselves to still be the best people to 'sort things out'.

Monday, January 23, 2012 at 10:59 PMGot to laugh! Chief Executive assures us it wouldn't achieve anything if he was to resign. Oh, all right then, if you say so. I'm quite young, but I'm told that once upon a time being the person at the top, drawing that salary and enjoying that position, would also have meant taking responsibility when things went wrong. But that doesn't seem to be the society we're living in any more.

Monday, January 23, 2012 at 06:25 PMat the end of the day the clinical staff have not been given tools to provide the service expected by the people. There is only one person resonsible for that and his picture is above. Every nurse and doctor wants to provide proper health care to the patients. All they need is adequate staffing levels, Bed spaces to admit patients, proper equipment and a building fit for purpose. Sadly they dont have any of those.
