More than £1m will be invested in improving GP access in Morecambe & Lunesdale.
The Open Doors projects has received £1, 137, 132 from the Prime Ministers Challenge fund.
This will mean that five GP practices in Morecambe will open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week, improving GP access for 61,000 patients and will establish a telephone triage system so that patients can be guided to the most appropriate service.
Patients will also have access to an improved range of minor injury services, including treatments for fractures, cuts and sprains, to avoid hospital admissions, with an out-of-hours X-ray service and access to an app.
David Morris, Morecambe MP, said: “I am very pleased that this money will come to Morecambe, constituents having access to a GP seven days a week from 8am until 8pm is very important to me.
“Behind the scenes I wrote a number of letters of support for this project.”
